Physicians could bolster teenagers’ use of sunscreens if they explained how sun expo sure causes skin cancer and prematurely ages the skin, claimed researchers from Johns Hopkins University. Most adolescents fail to use sunscreen, even if they have a family history of skin cancer, according to a survey of 220 Virginia teens, 81 % of whom spent most weekends in the sun.

One third said they never used a sunscreen and 9% said they always used one, according to a repoit in Pediatrics. Teens were more likely to use a sunscreen if their parents had insisted on it when they were young, and also if their close fl1ends used sunscreens.
